The New Zealand judiciary has today released protocols for the use of remote participation in hearings in the civil jurisdictions of the High Court and District Court, and in the Family Court.
International Day of Women Judges: 2025 marks 50 years since New Zealand’s first woman judge – Dame Augusta Wallace – was appointed to the District Court bench. Dame Augusta served as a District Court judge from 1975 until she retired in 1993. She later was appointed to the Waitangi Tribunal (1996 to 2006).
Chief Justice Helen Winkelmann of New Zealand and Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon of Singapore, along with senior judges from both countries, met in Auckland on Friday 7 February for the inaugural Singapore-New Zealand Judicial Roundtable.
