Jury directions and question trails

The resources on this page have been developed by Te Kura Kaiwhakawā | The Institute of Judicial Studies. Te Kura Kaiwhakawā provides judicial education and professional development for the judiciary throughout their judicial careers. Te Kura Kaiwhakawā is a judge-led organisation which supports continuing learning by way of courses and updates and via the provision of bench books.

Question trails and jury directions form part of the Criminal Jury Trials Bench Book. Bench books are developed for and by judges that bring together up-to-date case law and statute, legal commentary and practice directions.

It is recognised that providing this information more widely would be of benefit to the legal profession, and would also provide greater transparency into court processes. In recognition of this, a project is underway to publish the full Criminal Jury Trials Bench Book in 2024.
