The Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawā
The Office of the Chief Justice | Te Tari Toko i te Tumu Whakawā (Te Tari) supports the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, Chief High Court Judge, and other Heads of Bench of Aotearoa New Zealand in their leadership and administrative responsibilities – to enable the judiciary to function as an independent branch of government.
Established on 1 July 2014 (as the Judicial Office for Senior Courts), Te Tari supports the judiciary at the constitutional interface between the judiciary and the executive, providing advisory, legal, governance, administrative, communications and operational support. Te Tari is financially supported by the Ministry of Justice but remains otherwise independent. Te Tari incorporates Te Kura Kaiwhakawā | Institute of Judicial Studies, which provides education and professional development to judges, and also administers the Pacific Justice Sector Programme (PJSP).
