Annual Statistics

Workload statistics for New Zealand courts and tribunals are now available online.

These key court statistics provide a picture of court workloads over the past 12 months, and are updated every 6 months.

Statistics are provided for courts by jurisdiction and location. The following categories of statistics are available for the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, District Courts, and Specialist Courts and Tribunals:

1. Court workloads

  • New business
  • Disposals
  • Active cases

2. Waiting times for scheduled hearings

  • Information on waiting times to trial/defended hearing is also available for the High Court.

PLEASE NOTE:
Court workload is seasonal, especially relating to numbers of active cases. It can be misleading to compare active cases and/or waiting times at 30 June with those at 31 December.
